Asbestos removal in British Columbia must be done by trained, certified professionals — and as of January 1, 2024, all asbestos abatement contractors must be licensed under WorkSafeBC’s new asbestos regulations and anyone performing abatement work must be properly trained and certified. Handling or disturbing asbestos‑containing materials without the right training, safety protocols, and licensing is dangerous and can be illegal.
Even if you think you know where the asbestos is, you can’t tell by looking — materials must be tested in a lab first, and disturbing them without proper containment can release fibres that cause serious long‑term health issues.
For mold, DIY clean‑ups can remove visible growth but won’t address hidden sources or prevent it from returning — plus improper treatment can spread spores and make the problem worse.
We strongly recommend professional assessments and remediation to protect your health, comply with BC safety standards, and avoid fines, liability, or long‑term damage.
